Water erosion is when water moves loose soil and alters the earth's landscape.
There is 4 types of forms for water erosion, Rill, Rill is a type of water erosion that creates small channels of water on a sloped surface. Splash, Splash erosion is direct movement of the soil when it splashes on the ground, soil can be splashed up to 3 ft away by rain. Gully,Gully erosion is when water creates wide channels in the soil. lastly Sheet. Sheet erosion is when a thin layer of soil is removed from a large area. Water erosion is more likely to occur during the springtime when rain is most common especially in april. hypothesis:
If the amount of time for water flow increases then more dirt should erod because the water pressure will remove the vegetation from the river bank due to no protection from the vegetation the river will increase in size.
Procedure: create a stream in a stream table by putting it at an angle(downhill), make a path out of soil for the water to flow through. See image (take picture of the pump)
Add vegetation in the stream bank if there isn't any by adding leaves, grass and pack it tightly record initial mass of dirt.
Turn on the water pump, Time the water for at least 30 seconds to see how long the water takes to go through the river. weigh the amount of water/ dirt mixture after
Repeat steps 1-3 but remove the vegetation.
