According to the kinetic molecular theory by adding the warm water should make the reaction speed up because adding heat makes particles move faster and collide more frequently. (http://chemguide.co.uk/physical/basicrates/temperature.html) When temperature is decreased the reaction will take a longer time to reach its completion due to the fact that the particles are moving at a slower rate. When the particles are moving at a slower rate the reaction will take longer because the particles are not moving as fast as they would be if they were being heated. When wanting to make the reaction go faster heating the solute and solvent. Temperature is very important in determining reaction rates because by increasing and decreasing the temperatures allows us to see the number of high and low energy collisions. …show more content…
Our data we received for this lab does correspond to that of the kinetic molecular theory because we assumed that warming and cooling would cause a fluctuation on how fast and slow the particles would move and that concentration also affects the rate at which collisions occur. By looking at our graphs, we saw that as we decreased our temperatures and concentrations, the time for the reaction to begin would take longer, but as we increased our temperature and concentration the less time it took to see the reaction. Some errors we made were not stopping the stopwatch exactly when we started to see some blue which lead to quite possibly some wrong calculations and therefore wrong data. This lab has taught me that particles will move slower and faster depending on it’s temperature and or it’s concentration. The only improvement would be to use labquests because they help us tell how much time has passed, provide us with graphs, and let us know when our solutions read around the same
