EXPERIMENT #2 – ACTION SPECTRUM: FLOATING SPINACH DISK:
Hypothesis: I hypothesized that the colored light will produce the most photosynthetic activity due to the larger wavelenth
Null Hypothesis: For my null hypothesis I stated that there would be no effect of different colored light on photosynthetic …show more content…
We then proceeded to fill a beaker with sodium bicarbonate, enough to fill the syringe. The plunger was added to the syringe and enough sodium bicarbonate was pulled to fill the syringe ¾ full. After removing the air bubbles, the tip was covered with a gloved thumb and vacuum pressure was created. We observed the air bubble being released from the spinach disks and released pressure to allow the sodium bicarbonate to take the bubble’s place. This process was repeated until all of the spinach disks were gathered in the bottom of the syringe. While one person was carrying out this process, another person had placed 40 mL of sodium bicarbonate into five 50mL beakers. Into each beaker, 10 aspirated disks were added to each of the five beakers. These beakers are quickly placed in their corresponding color cabinets (blue, green, red, white, and light proof dark cabinet) with the backs in a square formation. A white light bulb is held over the square in between the cabinets. Every five minutes we counted and recorded the number of floating disks in each cabinet until 30 minutes had
