SHOCK Salve Aguilar West Coast University Pathophysiology Dr. Isabelle Tardif July 17, 2015 Abstract The case identifies the type of shock that CC encountered right after his traumatic accident. He was experiencing hypovolemic shock as evidenced by low blood pressure and increased heart rate.…
Deep breathing techniques promotes deep inspiration, which increases oxygenation and prevents atelectasis. Controlled breathing methods may also aid slow respirations in patients who are tachypneic. Prolonged expiration prevents air trapping. 2. Place patient with proper body alignment to promote a beneficial breathing pattern.…
The time of onset of seizure, date and duration should be noted and documented. • Phase 2:WT = 98.8 F (37.1 C) BP = 110/61 P = 99 RR = 40 (coughing, gasping) O2 Sat = 89% (room air) • Lung sounds: Crackles bilaterally • Substernal and intercostal retractions • Speech: Moaning • Pupils: 4 - brisk, bilaterally equal…
In training it seems so much easier. “A patient is found lying on the ground motionless. Please assess the situation and declare patient assessment”. Start with Danger. I am putting on gloves for personal hygiene (except I don’t actually have any).…
Jananis’ sister found her hanging from the deck with a dog chain around her neck, approximately fifteen minutes after having last seen her. Her mother attempted CPR whilst she remained hanging, and it was a further 15 minutes before she was extricated by the fire brigade. Return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) was estimated at thirty to forty minutes from assumed time of hanging. She was intubated at the scene and no inotropes were required to maintain an adequate systemic blood pressure. At the local hospital magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was completed to rule out brain haemorrhage.…
Mr Bates would not only need pharmalogical support at this time but would need emotional support as well. Shortness of breath increases anxiety a great deal and this can cause further problems with breathing. Therapeutic touch would play a big role in decreasing anxiety. Simple use of therapeutic touch would be beneficial in this case as it does not require verbal communication and reassurance which Mr Bates would struggle with as he is short of breath (Doherty et al, 2006). Relaxation techniques like pursed lip breathing and reassurance would help steady breathing (Upton, 2013).…
A hyperbaric chamber is a glass chamber built to serve the purpose of pressurisng oxygen to be breathed in by athletes, the air pressure in the chamber is increased upto 3 times higher than normal, this means that your lungs can intake more oxygen than normal. In taking part in hyperbaric therapy the blood in your body is allowed to carry more oxygen and nutrients through the red blood cells to sufficiently provide for the body, hyperbaric therapy is dissolved into the body's fluid therefore allowing for an increase of oxygen. This helps with fighting bacteria, stimulating the cells in return to promote growth of the cells and repairing of dead cells, can also be used as a treatment for decompression sickness, serious infection and repairing…
I remember the moment very vividly. It was almost 0200. The halls are dark except for one very dim light, flickering. I’m sitting at a computer charting, waiting for my next call. Then what every nurse deep down is dreading to hear on the intercom, came.…
This is to provide immediate respiratory care if the patient’s airway is compromised (Higginson, Jones & Davies, 2011). This is a low priority. B. BREATHING – Respiration is altered due to left ventricular failure. The patient is tachypnoeic due to an increased pressure in the pulmonary veins that will lead to pulmonary congestion that lessens pulmonary compliance, which raises the respiratory rate.…
After this they would assess Mr Bates’ disability i.e. his conscious levels. The main assessment tool is the AVPU scale listed on the NEWS chart. AVPU is mainly used because it gives rapid assessment of an acutely unwell adult and can signal deterioration. It has 4 main states. Alert, respondent to Voice, respondent to Pain and Unresponsive (Royal Marsden Manuel,).…
If you’ve been following my blog you know that at the Eustache Institute we specialize in neurofeedback therapy. However, an additional treatment we proudly provide is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing our lungs to gather more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. Our blood will then carry the oxygen throughout our body and our organs, helping to fight bacteria while stimulating the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing. For instance, just like neurofeeback therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is noninvasive, highly effective and treats a variety of illnesses and conditions such as, but not limited to, alzheimer’s, brain trauma, addiction (detox) insomnia and anxiety, and is extremely beneficial when it comes to skin care (rejuvenation, anti aging, reduces acne).…
The forests air quality is slowly decreasing because they are cutting down the trees that turn co2 into oxygen. The people in the communities near the cleared area could be getting sick and in some cases Hypoxia can occur to some people. Hypoxia is where a part of the body gets a lack of oxygen in the blood streams.…
The aim of the project was to minimize the inappropriate use of physical restraint in the acute respiratory unit, which caters to about thirty-two to thirty-eight patients with acute respiratory issues, in the promotion of the patient safety and improving patient outcomes. In the beginning of the project, it was noted that the acute respiratory unit was one of the lowest performing units when it comes to the proper utilization of physical restraint. As was stated by HCPro.com (2015), using a physical restraint does not reduce harm, but contributes to the delirium of the patient and sometimes other serious condition such as death. The patients’ population ranges from young adult to elderly.…
The failures we face in life give us the determination and motivation to succeed. About a year ago at The Faceoff Academy National Showcase I realized how much harder I needed to work if I wanted to play college lacrosse. There were a lot of talented kids that were already committed to colleges. I wanted to be like them. When I lost in the tournament it changed my mindset on being a student athlete.…
I learn a lot from my kids. They teach me something all the time and in turn I try to throw them some upbringing along the way . . . seems only fair.…
