Working on buildings and fixing roads isn’t so bad after you get over the fact that I only make $15 an hour and I have to wake up early every morning. After my normal morning routine, I walked down to the apartment lobby to check my mailbox and I found a white envelope with my name on it. It was labeled by the “Rental Agreement”. The envelope didn’t make any sense to me until I opened and realized it was an eviction from the landlord. I had tons of these laying all over my apartment and it never occurred to me until now that I wasn’t paying my bill. Anyway the eviction slip said that I was $2500 in debt. I had only $500 saved up because all the rest of my money was used. All of the $2500 is due by Friday so that means I only have 3 days. As I started walking towards the lot I could smell dirt and what also smelled like vegetables. It was everyone in the community and they all brought supplies for gardening. Everyone except for the little Asian lady. I asked around to get more information about her and apparently her name is Sae Young. She is a nice lady from Korea, which explains her accent, and she ran that dry cleaning shop. Anyway, the garden was filled with all sorts of different foods based on people’s culture. For example the Mexican families brought in corn for tortillas and the Asians planted rice. I decided I would plant jalapenos because that’s what I know how to plant.
