In the modern world, the dominance of technology and existence of terrorism as well as other events can significantly impact the treatment of immigrants. The social construction theory brings light to this by describing the way “groups and individuals are characterized by culture”, as analyzed by Robert Short from the Department of Physcology and Lisa Magaña at the Chicana/Chicano Studies Department at the Arizona State University (701). Existing policies still continue to affect millions of immigrants through the spread of racial discrimination, creating unfair treatment along the way. Consequently, revision of immigration policies and systems is necessary in order to create better conditions for immigrants as they adapt to new countries and undergo legal processes. Possible options to solve the problems that exist in the policies and practices includes more awareness through police and public education, increased monitoring of immigration systems, and a testing program (Nier et. al). Solving the problem of discrimination in immigration is a complicated process, as with all types of discrimination it will take time to disappear, but proper regulations and representation of immigrants can improve the lives of many. It is important to keep in mind that immigrants can be hard working people and move for many, often innocent reasons. In the changing world, even people who once were against immigrants might one day become immigrants
