Zeus is the king of all the Greek gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus, and one of the Twelve Olympians (most important gods). He controls the weather and can order arounds any god or mortal but cannot control the Fates (the three goddesses of destiny, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos). His father Chronus swallowed all of his children due to his fear of a prophecy. The prophecy said that his children would overthrow him as ruler of Mount Olympus so that was his only way to avoid the prophecy. When Zeus was born his mother Rhea wrapped up a rock and said it was Zeus so Chronus would eat the rock instead of her child. His mother then hid Zeus in a cave on Mount Ida so that Chronus would not find out. When Zeus grew up he decided to try to overthrow his father. He succeeded with help from his allies the Cyclopes. Zeus then cut into his stomach to release his siblings and imprisoned Cronus in the underworld and became king of the gods as predicted. This battle was named Titanomachy. [Wikipedia.org)
Hera is the queen of gods since she is Zeus’ wife/sister. She is the goddess of marriage, love, and life and is also a goddess of the sky and starry heavens. She is one of the Twelve Olympians too. She is said to be the most beautiful goddess, even prettier than Aphrodite who is known for being beautiful. Her name even means ‘beautiful lady’. Hera almost caught Io and Zeus together but he turned Io into a cow to hide her. This did not fool Hera so she made Zeus give her the cow as a present. Once Zeus gave Io (now a cow) to Hera she ha Argus watch her. Argus was to be sure Io and Zeus never got together again but Zeus sent Hermes to kill Argus. Hera heard about this so she sent a gadfly to sting Io as she walked on Earth.
