The early year of children’s development is an important time for the growth of children’s brain growth and the opportunity in maximizing children learning in the different developmental domain i.e. physical, intellectual, emotional and social. Poor quality child care is of a concern as children requires responsive and simulating environment from the caregiver; this in turn helps them to enhance their social, cognitive and language development (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 1998). Rachel Carson (1965) shared that the early years is an important time to prepare the soil. Thus, it is important to note that quality of child care is related to children’s development. Therefore, a benchmark or a yardstick is critical for preschool operator to meet the minimum requirement while working towards excellence.
Assessment tools are usually designed for a particular purpose such as language development, children behaviriul competency or for a programme quality. A purpose of an assessment must be defined before it is being selected and administered. This also means that there are many tools available for multiple purposes. Unreliable and invalid assessment tool. Having the experience to work with documents which are neither reliable nor valid. Moss (1994) discussed that reliability is an aspect of construct validity. As assessment becomes less standardised, distinctions between reliability and validity blurs. I was stranded as the documents have limitation such as an inferences based on the test are found not reasonable. Similarly, an assessment tool is invalid if the resultant scores contain errors. This not only slows down my working pace, it has great implication if the assessment were to be used on a child’s development as I would not be able to interpret and plan for a proper follow
