The concept is that the community and the police can work together to solve problems related to crime, fear of crime, disorder and neighbhorhood decay. This will help to improve the quality of life in that neighborhood. It will also control crime and rise public saftey. Community- oriented policing focuses on a proactive method within law enforcement. It addresses the root cause of criminal and disorderdly behavior. Rather than simply responding to crimes once they have been committed. It focuses on concentrating and preventing both crimes and atmoshphere of fear before it occurs. In such a society, the public will constantly commit crimes and live a fearful lifestyle. The law enforcement is usually identified by their roles in society. Therefore, the broken windows theory demonstrates how important their role is in reducing the fear of crime, increasing public safety and order. Throughout the years, policing has been developed and refined in preventing crimes. Policing is more than just locking up criminals. It mainly focuses on preventing crime from the root of the problem. Therefore, the broken windows theory provides the basic demonstration of the fundamental roles and importance of policing in a day to day basis. Both, community- oriented policing and problem- oriented policing work in solving or preventing crime and disorder in society. Both ways are used for the safety of the community. Also, both of the methods work with partnership. However, the only difference is that community-oriented policing strictly prevents crime from occurring and follows the key concept of addressing the problem from the roots. On the other hand, problem-oriented policing simply focuses on solving the present problem. I also believe that problem-oriented policing method is best used for more serious and complex crimes.
