Civil law is one the main branches of law that help regulate society, Civil Law is classified as private law. The branch deals with non-criminal matters and allows an individual of society to bring fourth civil wrong doings that have been done to them that were caused by other members of the public. Civil law deals with minor issues such disputes between friends, business partners, consumer and retailer and a government department.
Criminal law is another branch of law, Criminal law is part of the public law meaning it protects society from wrong doers. The jury system is a cross section in to society thus reflecting on the values and attitudes of society however some people are exempt from severing so it can be argued that it not a true cross section of society. Another benefit of having a jury system is that the final decision is made by more than one person, although it is argued that an ordinary citizen may not understand the legal technicalities presented to them or they can be easily persuaded by a clever lawyers. The jury system has a widespread acceptance on the other hand the jury system is costly and the selection process can be time consuming. Facts of case
The 61 year old GP Stephen Edwards , who has a special interest in geriatrics ,dementia and palliative care has recently be charged with murder after the death of his elderly mother , he is expected to be extradited to Tasmania. The Tasmania police told Guardian Australia in a statement that it’s alleged that his mother died in March after the administration of medication. It is also been alleged that Edwards travelled to Hobart days before her death. As part of the investigation the Tasmanian police officer will travel to Hobart and will be searching a number of properties.
