In addition, living with a stepfather who has muscular nerve damage throughout the entire left side of his body is heartbreaking. When you are used to seeing a man who climbed mountains, ran marathons, and served his country as a Sargent First Class Drill Instructor for the Marines and can no longer do the things he loves is why I am going into Dance Movement Therapy. A few years ago I was privileged enough to aid in teaching dance to others who are not as privileged as me to experience the opportunities with dance that I do. With that, I was proficient in helping individuals find dance as a way of communicating their feelings and seeing the joy it brought to their faces was something I will never forget. I was challenged at points due to my back injury, and the previous training that I had in modern dance but I got through it. Furthermore, the most rewarding thing that I have achieved by taking this class is being able to experience the art that was created to encourage me and other dancers the innovative individualism. Moreover, looking back at my favorite quote that I mentioned in my first paper by Martha Graham, “great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion”. I have learned there is nothing in the world like the thrill of dancing – feeling your body in control, graceful, strong, and exact.
