Every decisions made by managers are to evaluate to solve problems. “Leaders’ role is to provide recognition and to actively listen and facilitate problem solving… decision making on part of the followers,” (Timothy T; William H; Robert S, 2008, p. 237). Preferably managers would only apply few bases among many of other different powers that would exist. While there are different powers at different altitude the legitimate, reward, coercive, expert and referent powers stand to be as vital tool for managers within an organization. The managers are regarded as top hierarchy in the position and employees follow the orders that is been given. In this case managers would only apply few power bases apart from other bases that would exist. Preferably, in organizations the managers use the five power bases which are legitimate, reward, coercive, expert and referent power to influence the workers. The legitimate power is used by the managers to make decision and give orders to the followers to do what has been given. In other words the managers have the authority to control and influence the employees. Furthermore, reward power arises from the ability of the managers to influence the employees by allocation of incentives in an organization. In this case the employees who behave positively are rewarded with salary increase, positive appraisals and promotions in which motivates workers to continue their duties. In addition, the coercive power is the opposite to reward power. Managers use their ability to influence the employees via threats, punishments or sanction in which helps to control the behavior of the employees by ensuring that they observe the organization’s policies and norms. Moreover, the expert power is based up on the knowledge and skills that the managers have it and are highly regarded by the employees for problem solving skills they have.
