2.Emily Dickinson once said, “Much madness is divinest sense when viewed with a discerning eye.” This quote relates to Hamlet because madness occurs in the play many times. For example, as part of his plan, Hamlet feigns madness so the other characters would not be aware of his plan for revenge. As he continues feigning madness Hamlet walks on a thin line between sanity and madness, not knowing what is real and what is not. Hamlet also doubts himself with the capability of killing Claudius,but talks himself back into it, along with finding more evidence against him by putting on the play. This soliloquy is significant because it shows the time period of when King Hamlet died and when Gertrude married Claudius, which is about less than two months and less than a month, respectively. Hamlet describes how outrageous their decision making skills are as well. This soliloquy also shows Hamlet’s state of mind during this time. He is still sane, but is getting closer and closer to insanity. Another significant factor of the soliloquy is that Hamlet is using lies and deceit to catch the lies and deceit being spread. This factor supports the themes of revenge and deception because of the deceit part and the fact that Hamlet is using it to get his revenge. Some of the other themes supported in this soliloquy are action vs. inaction, RCD, family, loyalty, and justice. This soliloquy supports action vs. inaction because Hamlet is stopping himself from acting out his revenge.
