On the north there were hills and plains with fertile land leading early inhabitants to farm and make timber (Us History). The southern part of Mesopotamia was marshy, barren plains and flat. People in this region had to irrigate the land as the only way of life and cities had to develop along rivers just like in Egypt. Despite living on this flat and Fertile Crescent, Mesopotamians felt that they were cursed because of the frequent flooding of their land by the two rivers. This is a clear show of how impact affected not only lives of Mesopotamians but also their belief system.
