I supported several clients with special needs during my time with Behavior Intervention Services, My most memorable client was a young boy who required assistance in communication. He could not communicate verbally, so the team found alternative methods to teach him functional communication. I assisted in teaching him sign language and how to use assistive communication applications on his iPad . I taught him these methods by using high fives as a reinforcer. For instance, when he appropriately asked for a glass of milk on his iPad, I would give him the glass of milk and a hive five.…
There are many kinds of research that has been shown to be effective with criminal offenders for correctional treatment. One such treatment is group counseling which is the one that most mental health professionals use and usually have anywhere between eight and ten prisoners and will have meetings many times per week. With group counseling it approaches behavioral and psychological contentions that interpose in many disorders and demeanors, for instance, substance abuse by advocating behavioral adjustment by means of communications with other people who also cope with the same contentions (Kupchik, 2007). Another treatment that is used is specialized groups which accommodates substance abuse, anger management, parenting, and many other kinds of issues. They have specialized groups for offenders that have inclusive concerns, for instance, anger management groups.…
You address a very important point, when determining which theory is going to be the most success many factors need to be considered. Culter (2004) indicated behavioral health interventions must be designed to affect the actions with regards to their health. Culter (2004) describes three levels that will influences those interventions with an individual, the risk of the disease and the willingness to do something about it; community interventions; and national level intervention. The community level is where public policies will have the effect on the health behavior. The national level will help convey and get the correct information to the people, with the overall goal of encouraging the behavioral change.…
The National Standards Project is a report that was compiled by experts in the field, to evaluate the methods of treatment available for person with a diagnosis with autism. This project as according to the National Standards Project was to provide the strength of evidence supporting educational and behavioral treatment of the disorders, express the age diagnosis and skills associated with the treatment, offers recommendation and the identify the limitations of the current body of research on the treatments. Within this report, it specifies how treatments will be rated and also puts a treatment into categories. These categories falls into established (established treatment are those treatment that has shown that the method had enough scientific…
Counselors play the most influential role in a student’s positive behavior intervention support. Research provided shows an intervention method called Check-in/Check-out in which students have a structured daily routine (Martens & Andreen, 2013, p. 314). Through this method of research, students are selected to participate in this form of intervention.…
Autism is a developmental disorder; although listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), it is not a mental illness. The effects of having autism on a person can vary based on risk factors to which the individual has been exposed. Risk factors combined with autism can result in comorbid mental illness such as depression. Due to the fact that autism is ‘characterized by difficulty with communication, behavior, social interactions and imaginative play…’ (Casey, 2014, par.14), many opportunities for maladaptive behaviour in an individual with autism can occur. Autism is a spectrum disorder, and no cases present equally; the capabilities of an individual with autism can be different depending on what areas of functioning are the most affected (Casey, 2014).…
Behavioral Intervention: Real Food Defined The following case study is a behavioral intervention I did on myself. I decided to test my level of self-control and determination by disrupting my love/hate relationship with food. As it was suggested, I took the first two weeks to decide on a behavior, and also to find a baseline in which I would attempt to follow a schedule. I battled with myself on behaviors I was willing to intervene.…
There has also been increasing evidence that psychosocial interventions are powerful in alleviating these patients’ schizophrenia and enhancing their functioning, accordingly offering help for the recommendation they are a crucial piece of the treatment alternatives available for advancing patient recuperation from schizophrenia. There are five noteworthy classifications of psychosocial intervention have been utilized as a part of the group based treatment of patients with schizophrenia, with proof of viability on backsliding aversion and side effect control (Chien, 2013). There are likewise a couple of other conventional ways to deal with psychosocial interventions, for example, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and client-centered, supportive,…
The therapy session focused on correcting the posture of a mother who was 4 months pregnant and was experiencing low back pain because of excessive lordosis. The goal was to relieve the pain while walking and doing chores by making her aware of the muscle transverse abdominis and use it when doing her activities. Limb-loading while doing the activation of TrAs was used as a progression of the exercise. The reference used for determining the exercises and breakdown of actions appropriate for the patient’s population was from 6th edition of Physical Rehabilitation by O’Sullivan and Schmitz (2014).…
One major goal of behavior therapy is to eliminate problematic behaviors. This act, consequently, promotes the learning and adoption of newer, healthier behaviors. According to behavior theory, the goal of eliminating problematic behaviors is directly a result of the client being active in the therapeutic process.…
I have decided to fix my sleep schedule for my behavior modification. I have chosen this behavior because every semester, I never seem to get enough sleep. Since I do not sleep enough, I lose focus easily in my classes and have low motivation and energy when doing assignments. The main reason behind why I do not sleep enough is because I do not have a set bedtime.…
Autism Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or in short referred to as just autism, is a very server development disorder that has effected and consumed many children’s lives. Autism is not an easy illness to maintain. In this research paper I will discuss the effects that Autism can have on a person who suffers from it, how this disability impacts their families and friends, as well as their classroom and learning environment. I will also discuss what research based interventions and assistive technology are provided to help and contribute children with autism. The last thing that will be discussed in this research paper is how effective and beneficial it is to have family partnerships to help families gain knowledge so that they can be better…
I intend to work on identifying early indicators of autism so that we can develop assessments that are reliable in diagnosing autism at an earlier age. The earlier that we can begin shaping the child’s environment to maximize his or her learning, the better chance the child will have for a healthy and happy independent life. I am also eager to work on developing non-pharmacological interventions that target areas of difficulty for children with autism, such as auditory processing, receptive language and social skills. In addition to the necessity of starting these interventions early, the other component for increasing the likelihood of success is that the program be intensive and effective. As the cost of such interventions is prohibitive for many, it is imperative that novel interventions be accessible to the…
