As the discussion goes, the prominent debate is about the cause of his taking this
scandalous path. John Gotti, as many others (in my opinion), was persuaded towards crime due
to environmental circumstances. His involving in crime since childhood is the main cause he
followed that initiated pathway which was the result of his family state of affairs, the upbringing
surrounding and the peer influence that all signifies the different environmental factors.

Along with poverty
comes guardians’ principles and knowledge in the family that also plays a vital part in affecting
the young members during his/her upbringing. Unfortunately, Gotti’s family lacked in both the
aspects. As the article of John Gotti in “UXL Biographies” reads, his family was very poor with
a lot of family members, him being “the fifth of the thirteen children”, leading to deficiency and
misconduct. His father was very abusive and thus he grew up seeing his foul attitude which even
he gained it in the “way” through replication. As the saying goes, “Poverty is the parent of
revolution and crime”(Aristotle), the poor economic state of his family, his want of getting rid of
the deprivation and his malicious manner and values led him to involve in various gang crimes
