Once Caesar was slain Rome went into a panic and needed guidance after such a tragedy. Brutus appealed to the people of Rome through both ethos and logos. Brutus wanted them to hear him out after him slaying their to be leader. They needed a leader for Rome and wanted answers for why he had did such a thing. Brutus appealed to them through what they needed a future for Rome. He tries to appeal to them through emotion. He stated, “You all did love him once, not without cause: what cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?” He wants the people of Rome to understand it’s just as okay then as it is now to love Caesar. He was not a bad man and he is not a bad man. He may have not have had all the right ideas but he did not deserve to die. Antony wants Rome to know that Caesar’s murderers were honorable men that did such an unhonorable deed. He wants Rome to see who they truly were, they weren’t good men no more. What they were is snakes, Brutus had used his silver tongue to try to convince Rome that what he had done was justified.
I believe that Antony was more effective than Brutus’ speech. Brutus by default seemed too untrustworthy. He went from being one of Caesar’s right hand men to being one of his killer. Anthony was more loyal and tried to grip to their emotions. While Brutus tried to assure Rome by making assumptions rather than facts like he said Rome was going to be enslaved under Caesar’s leadership.
