I sat and talk to him for as long as he wanted to talk. Through this talk I explained to him that I had lost my father at a young age and I still have a hard time dealing with that. I mentioned to him some of ways I cope with the loss of my father. This student loves to write and listen to music so I suggested to him that he write a nice poem or song in remembrance of his mother. That put a small smile on his face and he immediately began to write. He wrote a beautiful poem about his mother and that alone helped him through this day. I mentioned to him that things would not be easy but finding positive ways to deal with this would help him. After our talk our classroom social worker stepped in to do a session.
