The Republic of Kenya is located in East Africa. It takes its name from Mt.
Kenya, which is located in the Central Highlands. Kenya is surrounded by five countries
and one ocean: Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the northeast, Uganda to the west,
Sudan to the northwest, Tanzania to the south, and to the east is the Indian Ocean. The
capital of Kenya is Nairobi, which is located in the highlands. The second largest city
is Mombasa, which is also its chief seaport.

Also in Kenya is the Aberdara mountain range, the
Mau Escarpment, and of course, the highest mountain in the country, Mt. Kenya. Kenya’s savanna, a grassland with scattered trees which allows the sun to reach
the ground, is known worldwide. It currently has 50 reserves and parks in which many
species of animals live in a protected environment. The millions of visitors to these
reserves and parks enjoy viewing the elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebra, hippos,
rhinos, and many other animals, some of which can only be found in Kenya. The foreign Riehl 2
visitors bring much needed currency to the country. In fact, tourism and all its facets such as lodging and transportation, is one of Kenya’s major industries. In recent days, the economy is showing growth and improvement. Much of its
work force is engaged in agriculture with the main crops being corn, millet, sweet

Unfortunately, the leaders were corrupt and dishonest, and they consistently broke their promises to reform and to give people the opportunity to live in a true republic.
After the 2007 election, violence broke out since the results were disputed by many.
The unrest and instability of the country was worsened by the fact that many nations,
including the United States, withdrew the aid which had been sent to the country to help
modernize the infrastructure and to provide support to the country.
Finally, on August 4, 2010, a new constitution was adopted which limits the
powers of the president. Now many countries have resumed sending aid in the form of
money, medicine, farming hardware, etc. to help the population prosper. Most of the people of Kenya are Christians with about 30% of them being
Roman Catholic, 20% are animists, and 6% are Muslims. There has been some upheaval
and violence in the country due to the inability of the various factions and religions to
live side by side. This continues to be a problem along with the AIDS epidemic which
