The first escape occurred when Thompson told Poole that she had a “phobia” of knives and ask that he set the knife that he was holding outside. Thompson told Poole that if she was able to hear the knife hit the metal of the car, she would be better able to “relax.” It is at this point, when Poole puts the knife away from Thompson, that she describes a “shift in power.” Thompson was also able to escape the attack mentally.…

In her lecture, Erin Runions, began by explained that in the bible disgust starts as disgust toward an ethnic group. This disgust then becomes disgust toward different kinds of sexual practices. Next, she argues that in America, the intuitive reaction to gay sex is one of disgust and she wants to convert that disgust into humor thinking with affect theory. Affect theory is an unconscious movement in the body felt physically and that feeling is then labeled as emotion. From this she argues that society teaches people what is disgusting.…
The author Karen Armstrong shares a brief explanation on why the crusaders are to blame for the various misperceptions in the Muslim religion including their reason behind the unjust violence. Armstrong also mentioned how the Muslim cared little for the crusades until a feud was created between the Ottoman Empire and Europe. As a result of so many centuries, it has its benefits because the Islamic tradition, practice, and history expand throughout the west even the crusades didn't want to.…
Thus, despite his liaisons he always finds himself coming back to her. Yet, she is not content with this relationship. Her repetition of “I can do this” comes with a lack of sincerity. Just because she comes off as pure and sweet does not make it so. She clearly desires the man in the poem, she clearly disapproves of his womanizing.…
The video of Susan Apold, PhD addressing question about the Nurse Practitioner profession was not just informative, but really makes one think about how unfortunate it is that after over 50 years, and the numerous research data documenting safe patient outcomes and satisfaction, that Dr. Apold had to address some of the questions and comments presented to her. With the increase in the number of states that afford complete autonomy to NPs, there seems to be some professional tension with the expanded role of the NP. As in all professions, there will always be those who practice at different levels of strengths and weaknesses.…
The man is feeling confused and wondering why she would do that to him because he thought that she loved him. They were both wondering why that had done what they did. Even though she has given him the most pain he has had in his life, he was still under her control because he was so in love with her. The poet has used this simile to show that the woman is feeling guilty and scared. Glenn Colquhoun has shown us with this simile that she is frightened and she shouldn’t be standing over him watching him die because she should have never hurt him like…
John Frederick Nims’ “Love Poem” is a poem describing someone he loves. The first line of the poem, “My clumsiest dear, whose hands shipwreck vases”, at first may be interpreted as the start of some form of insult. This line also intrigues the reader to continue and explore what Nims has to say about his “dear”. Though the poem begins by depicting some negative attributes that his love possesses, Nims doesn’t forget to describe her positive attributes, “Only with words and people and love you move at ease”. Overall the poem uses different elements of poetry to portray the idea that although his “dear” has many imperfect qualities, he loves her despite of them all.…

Auden and “How do I Love Thee?” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning are both poems that are expressing the author’s love for someone. She seems to try to convince herself that this man never existed through “I think I made you up inside my head” to make it easier to get over the pain of heartbreak. The long back and forth has made her both want and not want her love to be real. She expresses the unfairness of existence and her cascade of emotions throughout the poem to show how she feels, knowing that her love may be based on a lie. Finally, Plath uses the parentheses surrounding “(I think I made you up inside my head),” to illustrate the inner thoughts of this woman.…
