Answer to Question 3: Shikara commented that one of the biggest factors that differentiates a business from a school organization is the faculty employees. This is because many faculty members usually do no work year-round, they typically have ten month contracts, but there are a few with year-round contracts. She also commented that faculty employees can also be hard to work with at times because there seems to be an ‘us versus them mentality’ between hourly staff and faculty. This can sometimes make it hard to implement change and work together as one unit. One thing that she favors about Lakeland College that usually is not seen at a corporate business is the organizational structure. She said that Lakeland College has a flat structure. A flat structure is when there is few or no levels of middle management between staff and executives within an organizational structure.
