This term Hudson demonstrated he is able to write in different formats such as diary entries, letters, stories and comics. In these various formats he was able to convey his ideas and experiences through writing and illustrations. Hudson’s illustrations are connected and support his writing. He uses an appropriate voice in his writing that allows his personality to come through in his written pieces. An example of this was in his fractured fairytale he created a story with embedded humor. In his fairytale, he was able to include the elements of a story independently, which are beginning, middle and end. He has used these strategies to solve addition and subtraction facts. Hudson has worked on developing an understanding of double-digit addition and subtraction this term. He can identify whether regrouping is required or not and is comfortable solving addition with or without regrouping. Hudson continues to work on solving subtraction with regrouping. He inconsistent in showing all his work and is most successful when reminded before solving independently. Hudson is able to orally explain the process but may forget to show his work to demonstrate his understanding. In our measurement unit, Hudson has demonstrated an understanding and is able to measure width, height, length, weight, etc. Hudson likes to articulate his thoughts orally and provides very detailed explanations. An example of this is when another teacher came into the room and asked, "what are you doing?" Hudson said, "We are measuring mass and first was our prediction of which objects are heaviest to lightest using our eyes then we got to feel with our hands...".
