From the present 18.1 ratio to a 1.1 ratio. Which would bring fairer sentencing concerning cocaine. Now keep in mind the ratio use to be 100. This was adopted at the time when crack cocaine was a means to an end in every ghetto in America.
Then there are changes that need to be made to the mandatory minimums that the community use to sentence individuals. This procedure takes away the judges ability to be a judge. Strike this system and not the law makers and prosecutors. Who just see a means to an end, making jobs easier? Keep in mind the crack cocaine has the highest mandatory minimums for such small amounts of drugs. Which coincides with such a high ratio.
Let's not forget this system the community provides use to call past criminals history into the play. It's a practice of what individuals done in the past against the criminal to give a greater sentencing on what the individual facing at the moment.
