The first action to take is Simplicity. Leaders can benefit from using simplicity as a part of their leadership style. Doing so minimizes stress, anxiety and fear. Lencioni (2013) says that he is “convinced that simplicity is the scarcest commodity among leaders, and likely the most important” (p. 38). Just by keeping it simple, followers are less likely to get confused on which steps to follow to successfully navigate through crisis. Vision, teams, reality, and growth are the next actions which are essential leadership fundamentals (Dees, 2013, p. 181). Of those four essential leadership fundamentals vision and teams are the two that stuck out as most important. Every person in the group would be moving separately without guidance on where to go. According to Kumar (2014), “It is vision of the leadership that provides the guiding force to the organization to define its strategies and shape its own organizational culture” (p. 44). Furthermore, the lack of a vision can actually create a crisis (Kumar, 2014). A crisis is dangerous enough with strong leadership and a vision; however, no vision is an even greater danger. “The ethic of learning from life experience and adapting to meet future demands lies at the heart of resilient life and leadership” (Dees, 2013, p, 239). One thing is certain: nothing will test leadership like a crisis. Crises strengthen the usual challenges of leadership to seemingly unbearable levels. Yet, in such times, God’s leaders are not without promises and principles from Scripture to trust and to proclaim. This can be found in Psalms 34:17-20 (ESV), “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.” Never is there a better opportunity for God’s people to realize their purpose than in a time of crisis. However, leaders do not have time to abruptly become spiritual when crisis comes. Rather, they minister out of the spiritual depth they already
