The plentiful information, branches off into different categories which each are beneficial to our society today. One purpose of history is noted as, “Of all the fields of scholarship, world history offers the deepest and richest understanding of the world and its development through time.. and it has strong potential as well to foster the development of good judgment, with the possibility that good judgment will transmute in some cases into genuine wisdom about the fundamental issues confronting the contemporary world.” (Jerry H. Bentley) With the role of learning history comes the skills of judgement which is really important in cases outside of this study as well. This shows that one purpose of this subject is to strengthen the skills we may lack through the course of learning. To add on, Peter states “.. Some history—that confined to personal recollections about changes and continuities in the immediate environment—is essential to function beyond childhood. Some history depends on personal taste..through cumulative skill in interpreting the unfolding human record, provides a real grasp of how the world works.” Analyzing this quote, the purpose of history, in addition to studying is also based off of how it is interpreted into our life, as well as how we individually view it.
