During this time period artistic activity was going on, Raphael was finishing painting rooms for the Pope, St Peter was being built. Leonardo would keep a low profile until 1516 the King of France, Francis I, would send an invitation to Leonardo requesting his services. Once again he would travel back to France with Melzi. When he arrived the King gave him the title Premier peintre, architecte et mechanician du Roi (the First painter, architect and engineer to the King.) Leonardo would draw sketches for different functions but had the freedom to conduct whatever action he chose; he was more of an honored guest of the King while living there. With little painting while living there he would work on his treatise on painting and other studies. From 1514-1515 and betraying his own nihilism “he depicted overpowering Visions of the End of the World” (last years) Leonardo lived a long life even for todays standards. He dies in 1519 at Cloux and was buried in the palace of saint Florentine. He was seen as the greatest scientist, sculpture, mathematician, philosopher, architect and engineer.
