What is a pesticide?
Pesticides are substances which are used for attracting and then destroying or vindicating any kind of pests. It is a biological agent which is used to destroy pests. Pesticides are usually used for keeping pests away from plants. Pesticides are used fight insect-borne diseases and they also help to increase food production. Although pests have numerous benefits they also have few drawbacks such as possible toxicity to humans and other species.

It is also a fact that India is an Agro based industry. Agriculture and related industries accounts for 13.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It also constitutes 50% of the workforce of the entire country. Hence many advancements are being made in the agricultural sector. One of the latest advancements in the agricultural industry are using light as a pesticide. As mentioned earlier pesticides are very important in the agricultural industry. It helps to get rid of the pests and other vermin which can cause harm to the plants. However these pesticides have few disadvantages. There have been several cases where the use of excess pesticides are affecting the health of the people and the quality of food. The pesticide residues in food products are causing several problems. Hence there is a need to introduce new form of pesticides which are less harmful and have less ill effects. Using the latest technology scientists have figured out new ways and techniques of using light as a natural and harm free form of pesticide. Thanks to the advancement of LEDs and lasers in the past two decades, we can now make light do things that would have seemed impossible a century
