A person’s social status is based solely on how successful they are in the working business. In the East neighborhood lives families of wealthy business owners, but living in the neighborhood over are families living on one income and food stamps. Naturally, poorer families are looked down upon by those of higher economic standing, which, as a result alienates the members of poorer families in school and everyday life. Families with more financial struggles tend to be perceived as outsiders because they cannot afford the luxuries that middle and upper class families enjoy.
