The biological differences have seen many individuals experiencing depression with abnormalities in their brains. These abnormalities cannot be directly related back to depression but have been seen in a lot of individuals suffering from the condition, it is hoped that in the future it can be helped to pinpoint depression in different persons. The chemistry of an individual's brain, specifically their neurotransmitters, which are naturally occurring chemicals, could be a cause of depression due to the chemical imbalances that are seen in many of those diagnosed with depression. The imbalance of hormones in the body can be a trigger cause in depressed people, from menopause, thyroid problems, or others. The thyroid is a large vessel in the neck that secretes hormones called T4, which influences the metabolism, growth, development, and body temperature. The inheritance of traits from biological or blood relatives can have an increase in the possibility of depression being passed down through generations. Researchers are trying to pinpoint which genes may be involved in the condition.
