Water transports the material from Linganore to the Chesapeake Bay. Erosion is the process of rock being worn away by the action of water, wind, and other processes. The three types of rock that erosion can impact are igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. Sedimentary Rocks are formed by eroded pieces…
Standing Pond Volcanics consist of metabasaltic amphibolite and exhalative chemical metasedimentary rocks of the Middle Silurian age (Hammarstrom et al., 2001). The bedrock beneath the Ely mine site is part of the Gile Mountain Formation. The Gile Mountain Formation formed during the Acadian Orogeny during the Lower Devonian period. Originally deposited as sedimentary rock, the bedrock underlying the Ely Mine site is highly metamorphosed. It is largely comprised of noncarbonaceous quartz-mica schist and feldspathic quartzite, interbedded with amphibolite in some regions.…
The Quarry in La Quinta was established in 1994 in California. It is situated in a breath taking background consisting of mountains, waterfalls, and streams. Its creator Tom Fazio creatively planned the Quarry in such a manner that it came to be known as “Golfer’s Paradise.” Tom Fazio designed three unique playing areas. So those playing golf experienced a steady increase in height which allowed them to see the mesmerizing details of the course.…
Good morning Ms Gianotti and fellow classmates. For this term’s child studies assessment, I have designed a toy for 2-3-year-old called the “Art Geo Board”. The art geo board is a kids toy to encourage them to learn more about shapes, colours, numbers, alphabet, objects, pattern, counting and symmetry. It is a wooden board with pegs you can string rubber bands around and fairly simple to make and cheap fun. I made this toy for under $12 in materials and completed in less than an hour.…
All the mapping areas surrounding Dillon has the youngest unit of the Quaternary period, which is the alluvial sediment. Alluvium sediment is an unconsolidated deposit of clay, silt, sand and gravel as a result of stream flows in a river valley or delta. The unlithified deposits fill a basin and lump together to form ‘alluvial’ sediments. Other Quaternary depositions include talus and landslide. Talus occupies both Block Mountain and Timber Hill, while landslide only occupies Block Mountain.…
The Sierra Nevada is the longest mountain range in America and it lies partially within the parks. Along this range lies Mt. Whitney, at an elevated height of 14,491 feet and considered the tallest mountain within the lower United States. In Sequoia National Park, resides another prominent ridge of mountains called the Great Western Divide and it has been posed as the rival of the Sierran Crest. The topography and its gradual formation was the result of the uplift of the southern portion of the Sierra block over an elevation of 8,000 feet during the Plio-Pleistocene time (Konigsmark 2002).…
Powder Springs, located in Georgia, is a place between Marietta and Hiram. It is a city located in Cobb County. The people in Powder Springs focus on family life and how they can better themselves. They try to help others as much as they can, but it is not always easy. The town is full of life and life experiences.…
As mentioned above this is the fine grained facies that intruded the older coarser grained rock. Sample LH-15 was taken from this facies. Even though the rock is more fine grained than surrounding facies it still has a phaneritic texture. The facies is a biotite-muscovite granite (Speer et al. 1980). Our hand sample from this location shows an inequigranular hypidiomorphic texture.…
The Kansas City Athenaeum was founded in 1894, when several residents of the growing town came together to form a literary group, and also pursued philanthropic activities that would benefit the community and address other civic causes of the city. In Georgia; right outside of Atlanta in DeKalb County, there is a mountain that stands out from the rest. This mountain is completely made of granite. It is 5,000 feet long, seven miles around the base and a mile to the summit up the sloping side. Records say it is the largest mountain made of stone. This mountain is ironically named Stone Mountain and there is a Confederate memorial that is on the side of it.…
GEL 101 How does taking GEL 101 impact a college career and insure college readiness at Cal State, San Marcos? GEL, thought to be a breeze for freshman, made me have a new outlook and experience towards college. At first I took the class for an easy A, but came to realize that it has help me more than any other class I took. As an incoming freshman I was not prepared for the sleepless nights in attempting to keep up with homework and friends.…
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned from the Interact Club. Connecting with others and solving problems did not come from self-help books or a wise mentor, but rather from community service in a club. These are some of the things I learned: Help people often, it is good for you. Talk to strangers and meet new people.…
The monument I would create is in Boston, Massachusetts, which is a historically rich city, but I would create a monument to one specific event named the Boston Massacre. This is a significant event in the history of United States, where British troops murdered some Americans after they formed a mob. This partly led up to the Revolutionary War where America fought Britain. This monument would be made of dolomitic marble. It would contain a 20 x 20 replication of Paul Revere’s engraving of the Boston Massacre, and under it an inscription explaining the Boston Massacre.…
Traumatized Soldiers Re-adjusting to Family Life: The Impact of the War Experience on Veterans in “Stones” and “The Shannon” Canada has a long history of fighting in many wars and has had many distinguished war veterans. However, many of these war veterans were affected by post-war trauma. Timothy Findley in his short story “Stones” explores the impact of the Second World War on the Max family, when David Max, the father returns back from his military service in 1943. A similar short story by David Adams Richards “The Shannon,” considers how the dynamics of family change when a father returns after fighting in the Korean War in 1951 with a head injury.…
During the documentary I learned that near the Earth's surface many gemstones are formed when minerals react with water and later on are dissolved. The evaporation causes the minerals to form. Gemstones are produced when the water is mixed with sandstones. Amethyst is a purple crystalline quartz. The Agates is a cryptocrystalline which comes in…
