Marching band is a group of musicians who play instruments while marching together. Either to make shapes and pictures. Usually at some sports events and parades and are performed competitively as well. The Blue Devils are a well known, professional, marching band. Nevertheless there is a lot of physics involved. Whether it’s the tempo of the song, this would involve speed, other things are in factor too like velocity, acceleration, friction, and momentum. Mostly in the movement. To start, the speed refers to the a lot of things. It could be the tempo, for example, 166 beats a min to 100 beats a min or whatever. This affects the speed of the marchers as well. In this diagram you can see that gravity is pulling on the marcher and …show more content…
After stepping off with your left foot your right foot will flow forward as it pushes on the ground. The same rules apply, gravity is pushing the marcher down and the ground is pushing back. Same with friction, friction keeps the movement steady and momentum determining how fast and how far the movement will take the marcher. This time there is force. As stated, instead of a lift there is a push of the foot giving more momentum to the movement. This can make the marcher go farther or faster but it does depend on how much push you give. You will receive an equal and opposite push back from the ground. Newton’s third law. As you move your left foot and your heel hits the ground you follow through with you right. As you move your right, your left foot will be flat on the ground. You roll your feet. But for you right foot to come forward and to help the marcher move with the beat, they push their right foot off the ground to go forward. This is the force being played on something else, the ground, causing the marcher to have momentum to move forward. The faster the tempo or speed of the song the faster they move and play. The march and move on the beat.
Velocity is the speed of something in a given direction. This is depending on how much force you have and how fast you’re going because of the speed of the song. However, it also depends on the direction. This only applies to marching because you can’t play in a direction but you can move in a direction. You can actually calculate the velocity by using s=d/t and adding a direction. That again is only for movement because you can’t play in a specific
