My evolving personal goal at Marywood University is to be the unsurpassed student and believe in myself. Often times, I look for other people’s approval such as from my teachers or professors. As a child, I always wanted to become a teacher. But time and again, I looked for acceptance from others, which is a bad habit for a teacher. Most students look up to their teacher as a well-rounded person who is successful in her or his career, at least I did. My teachers seem to have had all the confidence in the world. I yearn for my students to have the same self-assurance.
Right now is the perfect time for me to accept myself without the approval from others. I need to start to respect my own work and not permit others to determine my abilities as a student. I just want to have that confidence in myself that way I can show my students that they can do it as well. I want my students to learn to respect their own self and their work. I don't want others to have a control over their lives where they have to look for external approval to be happy within. I want them to have the self-confidence to stand up for themselves and not let other people determine who they are. I want them to respect their own abilities to be themselves. This is one of my personal goals that I know will take some time to work on, but it’s possible if I continue to practice.
