Maslow hypothesized that there exists, within every human being, a hierarchy of needs. These are self-actualization needs, esteem needs, social needs safety needs and physiological needs. Maslow’s theory has drawn attention to the lower-order needs, which are neglected in some organizations. If these needs are not satisfied, higher-order needs may not be operative (Pareek, 2007).
