The art of Blacksmithing, crafting master swords out of fire and iron, was no easy task. Blacksmiths often bought purified iron and in which they themselves then turned it to steel (Clements, 2006). Many Blacksmiths had learned from trial and error to get iron into the proper strength of steel (Clements, 2006).
