Although all able-bodied individuals should partake in routine exercise its especially important for those who find themselves in stressful environments and situations (e.g. medical school). “Regular exercise has demonstrated a positive effect on not only promoting physical health, but also mental health. Exercise encourages a healthy mood, positive self-esteem, and better cognition, while decreasing the chances of depression, anxiety, and burnout” (Bitonte & DeSanto, 2014, p. 43). Because exercise is interconnected with psychological well-being and life satisfaction, the authors propose mandatory physical exercise at 90 minutes per week spread over a period of three days with 30-minute sessions for all medical students. Notably, they further suggested that institutions build this time allotment into the student’s curriculum as not to enhance the existing burden of time
