For this assignment I chose to do Methadone. I found my information through the following; Websites, New articles, Health Unit, Drug References and magazines. Methadone is a high alert drug it is used to treat many different disorders such as evidence from ending treatment with Opioid Drugs, Narcotic Addiction, Severe Pain and Chronic Pain. Methadone is used more than people think. “The health care community says methadone maintenance treatment plays a big role in overcoming painkiller addiction and that the presence of a clinic is good news for people that need help (Sarah Deeth, 2011)”.

Methadone causes side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and headaches. Can also cause nausea, vomiting and anorexia. CV (Cardiovascular) Palpitations, bradycardia, change in B\P (Blood pressure), cardiac arrest, shock and hypotension. In some cases it can cause life-threatening heart rhythm disorders. Side note Methadone can cause legged breath or completely stop your breathing when you have a change to your dose.
