The physical state of students would improve if afterschool sports activities were available. Child obesity has recently become a big issue in the United States. It has increased 16% in the last thirty years. Having adolescents engage in physical activity at a young age can decrease childhood obesity by 26% compared to young adults who don’t participate in sports. Sports at a young age also develop an active behavior that stays for a lifetime. It can shape the way some children act in their adult life (whether they are overweight or not). Middle school sports also help promote healthy joints, bones, and muscle tissue. You are more likely to have fewer problems with your body if you were an in-shape kid. Being involved on sports teams can allow students to make new friends and improve relationships with many people. Interaction with peers in a team setting allows kids to feel apart of something which some students need in their lives. Sports teams at the middle school age also improve self-esteem and psychological well-being. Students are also pushed to persevere at their sport until they succeed. This is a very important skill for later in life. In addition to boosting children's life skills, sports can also extend program
