The treatment these people receive, from individuals who are uneducated in Islam, is unacceptable “Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith”(Islamic Texts Society). Misconceptions are the number one competitors that lead to inaccurate facts about Islam. Commonly, they are mistaken for violent terrorists or even extremists. The Islamic faith is in no way connected to terrorism, in fact, the holy text, the Qur’an, mentions nothing but hope and peace for its people. Another misconception is that the religion itself treats women poorly when in reality the oppressions are set within the local culture’s traditions and Islam is in no way connected to that (Worksheet). In fact, Muhammad was a feminist in his day. The doctrine he shared, which was the word of God, gave great respect towards the women of that time. For a long time in certain societies, women were treated as though they belonged to their husbands almost like an object. Islamic law banned the burial of unwanted newborn girls and stated that women had the right to an education as well as owning land. Muhammad also decreed that women were entitled to sexual satisfaction (Beyer, 73).
