Most of the houses were old and barely in-tact. The natives of Jamaica have to build their own house without any help from the government. Because of this, it takes about five to ten years just to finish building the house. Most houses that are already built were built by former relatives, such as fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers. As they start to build the house, the tour guide stated that the first rooms that are built is the kitchen and bathroom. These are the first two rooms to be built because of its use. While the other rooms are in the process of being built, the families sleep on the floors of the kitchen and bathrooms. The process of building the houses is one that no one should go through. Most family members die before the whole house is complete. Also at night, families are robbed and in some situations forced to give up his or her house for their life. As we boarded the ship, I go back to my room thinking about blessed I am and that I am not in the situation as other people. As I reflect on this, I think this trip to Jamaica was a wake up call. I realized that everyone doesn’t have all the things that I have. I look back at all the times where I was disappointed because I didn’t have the latest phone. Or the times when I can’t get something that I want out the store. This trip made me realized how ungrateful I can be at
