Two woman come to Solomon asking him to decide who the mother of the child is. Each woman had a son but one of the sons was killed and now they are arguing over who the living son belongs to. Solomon tricks the woman by saying that the baby must be cut in half and be shared. The real mother cries out not to kill her son and to give him to the other woman. Solomon knows this is the real mother because she would rather give her son away than kill him. However the fake mom is fine with keeping half a dead son. The Baby in this story is the kingdom. Jeroboam is the fake mother in the story because he accepted a divided kingdom.Moses and David represent the real mom who doesn’t accept half a child. Jeroboam should have refused the kingdom just like Moses and David did. Elisha met a Shunamite woman who was very kind and made him a room to stay in when he traveled through Shunam. Elisha showed his appreciation by asking what he could do to help her in return. The servant explained that the woman had no son and was married to an old man. Elisha blessed her and later she gave birth to a son. The son became sick and the Shunnamite woman brought him to Elisha and he died. However, Elisha laid his body on the son and he was alive again. The child in this story is the Kingdom of David and Elisha is God. The kingdom of David is dying and God’s promise is failing.
