1. INTRODUCTION
Writers and speakers have different styles of communicating with their audience. These communicative styles are determined by various factors such as the type of audience the speaker is addressing, or the type of situation the communication is taking place or perhaps the matter that is discussed (Nordquist, 2016). These factors are known as multimodal factors and they contribute a lot in word selection and other communicative modes that the communicator chooses in order to send an understandable message to his or her recipient.
This paper discusses how choice leads to selection in any multimodal space. The paper begins by defining what multimodality is and it concludes by explaining how multimodality influences the communicator’s choice and the selection of words.

An example of multimodal communication is a newspaper advertisement that includes images, words and colours. In an advertisement the communicator has to make a choice and select the type of signs and symbols to utilise in order to reach and make sense to the people he or she is communicating to, he has to select the type of font that would be appropriate for the advertisement, whether to use Uppercase words or lower case, the colours and images that need to be included in the advertisement so that it looks appealing to the target
