Through my interactions at Alexander Middle School, I have learned how to carry myself with confidence and appropriately speak with other teachers. I have also learned to communicate effectively with my mentor teacher by asking questions regarding her classroom. I also learned to communicate with her on expectations she had for me and what she wanted my role to be in her classroom. By actively partaking in this role, I planned lessons that addressed the content that we covered in her class and that built upon student’s previous knowledge of topics. I have also learned to work with other school personal; I worked with the technology teacher to establish a time they would let students use laptops to complete assignments and testing. Through this planning, we worked together to establish a schedule that had students use laptops during their academic coaching time to complete their assignments. I also worked with other teachers to identify what students needed to be working on during academic coaching and how best I could use my resources to help them. During the first period of the day my teacher would write on the board what student had to work on what, which allowed us to communicate who was going to help who complete their work. This allowed us to help everyone during that period. I attended a teacher conference during my time at Alexander. By participating in this …show more content…
Through teaching my 6 lessons I learned how to critically reflect on my performance. After each lesson, I would write down some things that I did wrong in my lessons and things I did well. By self-reflecting, I was able to adapt my instruction in future lessons to make my instruction clear and more beneficial for my students. . I focused on mainly science related topics to complete my lessons on, and I was able to identify that I did not need to use videos to open up a lesson. The videos did not help students understand the content, it was visual examples and experiments such as, and graham crackers that represented the tectonic plates that helped my students learn the concept. I took a reflection from my first lesson that I had written that stated I should use better use of praise during my lesson. Through that self- reflection I was able to understand how to fix the problem of constantly giving a student the same praise. I began to notice that the praise wasn’t affecting the child’s confidence in learning anymore because it had been used so much. Through the self-reflection of my lack of positive praise I was able to incorporate different phrases that I could use to praise student during a lesson, such as fantastic and great work. I think that by continually learning and gaining knowledge on how to critical reflect my performance I will be able to create lessons that address different students
