The window in the living room looked out over the nearby beach as the sun rose over the horizon and the light reflected spectacularly off the waves of the deep blue ocean. The most important part of the day was not to be the ocean today, no matter how beautiful. The goal of the day was for us to drive along The Road to Maui, although short it was something to devote an entire day to. Almost the entire road was twisting and winding the edge of the island. If you would glance to the side the cliff edge was immediately next to you. The entire day trip put the island colors on display for my family. There were the vibrant reds of all the flowers in the forest dotted among the greens of the trees and fauna. The deep blue ocean rising behind the tree line reflecting the same sun I saw that morning. The white fluffy clouds that told of rain floated peacefully through the sky. Along this trip we did not just take in the stunning sights the island had to offer. There were many small bodies of water and waterfalls dotted within the trees, hidden from sight. Jumping into these small pools was extremely refreshing when under the warm sun in the middle of the day. It was not only the pools of water in the forest that kept us cool. As the darker clouds covered the blue sky we found one of the caves on the island. We had arrived early in the day so the various peaks were still covered in the early morning fog that just added to the stunning sight. We were at a bowl in the mountain with a few peaks around us, so most of our view was limited to the mountain except for the way we came. That direction was open like the curtain to a show and as the sun moved across the sky the light would drag across the landscape. I could nearly see to the far side of the island before the earth rose higher to try to meet the sky. Nearer to us the peaks of the mountain was covered in greens that was being painted in various shades by the new days
