Many students may have had similar experience and, after the reading, may feel writing poetry is not as threatening as previously believed. Students will write in their journals their first impression of the poem.
DAY 3 - We will reread "My Personal Recollections of Not Being Asked to Prom" and identify its set-up on the page, the rhyme scheme, enjambment, tone, meter, rhythm and noted irregularities, any multi-syllabic rhymes, connotations of selected words, and alliteration, metaphors, repetition, and irony. We will notice the sentence structure and syntax used in the poem that aids in its clarity. Students will be given a prompt for a poem to complete on their own.
