When brought the points “Immigrants take jobs from U.S. citizens,” “Immigrants are a drain on society’s resources,” “Aliens refuse to assimilate, and are depriving us of our cultural and political unity,” and “Noncitizen immigrants are not entitled to constitutional rights,” Cole brings up information that, to the naked eye, appears valid against the so-called myths. He argued that “Mexican immigration to the Los Angeles County between 1970 and 1980 was responsible for 78,000 new jobs.” But what else was happening in Los Angeles during that decade? And furthermore, if immigration is so beneficial then why only mention one county among the entirety of the United States? The rest of the “myths” are responded to in similar ways that beg the question as to just how much research Mr. David Cole put into his article or rather if he was just trying to get people to feel the same way as him.
Cole brings his morals into his final paragraph by stating that “we will be judged by how we treat others.” He believes that this country is not in good shape if we continue to treat and judge both immigrants and fellow citizens how we have been in the past. But what in his article proves that we have judged or judged poorly? He gives no examples as to how this judgement has occurred or even what the consequences have been of such
