1.) 1700s – The Enlightenment: The Enlightenment is the major movement that took place in the 1700s that transformed the world after it. It involved a new wave of thinkers who put reason and rationale above religious or superstitious explanations. It led to people seeking knowledge in order to explain the world using reason. People started to question the world and why things were the way they were; this eventually leads to people questioning their leaders and even the church . After the chaotic French revolution, the people of France wanted stability and end to the anarchy . Napoleon had many accomplishments as a ruler of France. His most famous accomplishment was the Napoleonic code, which replaced the old, differently misrepresented laws and instead created a uniform law . He also improved education and instituted in high schools, revolutionized military tactics by using unorthodox tactics like movement and regrouping, and he also centralizes the divided power in France to create a strong central government . Napoleon was also seen as a champion of liberalism and freedom; he gave the church a voice again after they had been expelled during the revolution and he also got rid of slavery and servitude . Perhaps his most lasting legacy, however, is uniting all of Europe under his empire which most people argue is what laid the foundation for modern day European Union …show more content…
The Tsar in Russia, Tsar Nicholas II, was very unpopular because of corruption and the long war of World War II that was draining the country . In the revolution, a revolt that starts on February 23, overthrows the Tsar and only leaves the provisional government . The other group left are the soviets which were socialists, and the branch of socialists known as Bolsheviks, take control and end the war by signing the Brest Litovsk treaty . They award nobles land to the poor, nationalize banks, and give factory workers the rights to the factories . The Russian revolution and the Bolsheviks rise in Russia was significant because it led to a one party dictatorship, communist led Soviet Union arising in 1922 . This not only saw the rise of the ideology of socialism but it also shaped the Russia that followed afterwards. The Russia that followed was shaped by the Bolsheviks winning the revolution rather than the democratic provisional government winning
