Introduction and Issue Definition
This paper focuses on the impact of using technology in education. Schacter (1999) provides that students today use various kinds of tools for schoolwork, including research work and extra curriculum activities. Nonetheless, he argues that use of equipment may also lead to negative implications for students. Bataineh & Brooks (2003), explain that technology in education refer to tools used to promote learning among students, including computers, music players, cameras, and calculators. They also assert that it may include communication platforms for lecture engagements. They add that it is common evidence that roles of teachers are changing due to …show more content…
They add that this may translate to poor performance among students and breach of education guidelines. The authors also claim that increased use of technology in education creates lesser time for students to socially interact. They add that this also involves improper integration between technology and oral presentations and collaborations which minimizes dynamism and social interaction in a learning experience. Higgins, Xiao, and Katsipataki (2012), explain that, as opposed to real communication, virtual communication does not consider how an integration of culture and communication influences social interaction. The authors provide that another negative aspect of technology is that it fosters cheating in classwork and assignments. This implies that students employ lesser thought or perspective in schoolwork and this makes them lazy. Moreover, Higgins, Xiao, and Katsipataki (2012), claim that technology in education is bias to schools with limited access to technological resources. The authors assert that there may be students who learn better using oral methodology. They explain that there are wide disparities between children with adequate access to education and those with limited access of the same. This translates to inequality that reflects on performance and further deteriorates the learning perception of students with inadequate access. Inequality of …show more content…
He asserts that it mostly translates to poor performance among affected students and downgrading of some ancient, more effective learning practices. He adds that it may also alter student and teacher processing of information and decision making in relevant educational tasks. Nonetheless, it is best to incorporate technology in education. Technology has its pros and cons in regard to its impact on education. Likewise, McManis and Gunnewig (2012), posit that adoption of technology in education creates varying levels of reaction among students and teachers. In addition, technology may be costly, time consuming and cumbersome in its use. However, the above discussion may prove that its benefits outweigh its limitations. According to McManis and Gunnewig (2012), the most important aspect of technology is that it provides opportunities to gain new learning experiences and collaboration among education stakeholders. This includes making new discoveries
