The Cellphone Right
In our modern society, our lifeline is our phone. Indeed, in restaurants, at school, sports events, everywhere we go most people have a phone. To many, their lives may depend on it. The age of cell phone initiation is becoming younger and younger with 30% of 10-year-old Spanish children have a cell phone; the rate increases to nearly 70% at age 12 and 83% at age 14. There have even been new scientific diseases coined “Nomophobia” (No-Mobile-Phobia), the fear of having no cell phones around, “Textaphrenia” and “Ringxiety” constantly checking and responding to text messages. Regardless of race, gender, or sex, couples were allowed to get relationships. Thus, we should also be allowed to have relationships with our phones. By granting phones citizenship rights, phones will no longer be an addiction but rather a friend, companion, and relationship.
On October 25, 2017, Saudi Arabia officially gave citizenship to Sophia, the first robot citizen on Earth. Sophia has the same rights as a citizen where citizens are required to be paid for their works, can accumulate property, participate cultural life, take part in public affairs, vote, etc. based on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Many of you may be worried that adding over 7 billion phones as citizens may contribute to the already present problem of a lack of resources and population. However, adding phones as citizens will actually contribute the society. Phones will be required to pay taxes to the government, follow laws and regulations, and may be required to pay off their warranties, living expenses, etc. Indeed, this will boost our economy, add more jobs, and have an overall benefit on this Earth. With unemployment rates higher than ever, adding phones as citizens will provide more jobs, revenue, etc. At the same time, no expenses will be made as phones do not need to eat, sleep, or go to school. Thus, overpopulation is not a problem. Instead, these phone citizenship rights will contribute to our global
