It is easy to say mom or dad can live in the house, if the extra space is there. On the contrary, it is cumbersome to find a place to put mom or dad when there is already not have enough bedrooms for the children. As a result some resentment might be taken out on the elderly that has to live there. In this case the shelter is available but the comfort is definitely not there. This then puts stress on everyone, which leads the elderly person neglected. Personal safety might be an issue, for example if the family lived in a two story, and it is not possible to make a bedroom on the first floor. Consequently, if mom or dad have to live in a bedroom that is on the second floor and they have difficulty going up and down stairs it is a situation that could be very dangerous. This situation is one part of neglect that would more than likely be the hardest to find a quick, easy solution; since most cannot afford to just sell and buy a new home.
Medicine can be a very expensive part of taking care of an elderly family member. As the aging process sets in, we experience more health problems. These new health problems more than likely need a drug to control them. Insurance only pays so much, and are leaving us the bill. If our elderly family member does not have the means to pay for this bill, it is left on the person taking care of them to pay. It is hard to lift a child in and out of the bathtub after a long day of work, dinner, and whatever extra is put into the daily routines. Imagine lifting a person that is of equal weight into and out of the bathtub. It is either impossible to do by oneself, or extremely difficult to do by oneself. Therefore, it is often pushed back to the weekend when there is ample help, or another night. Then something happens that night, and one does not have time to do it, or something comes up that weekend and it gets pushed back. This leaves an elderly person, who cannot lift themselves in and out of the tub to wash themselves, dirty. This lack of person hygiene can easily be built upon week after week. How many times has a child gone without brushing their teeth because one was not there to help, or do it for,
