According to Maslow, the hierarchy of needs consist of five physiological needs, “safety needs, love needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs” (Winston, 2016). Maslow's pyramid of hierarchy needs display that our basic needs are at the bottom of the pyramid. The needs that are not most important are towards the top of the pyramid. Once an individual met or fulfilled a need they will move up to the next level of needs and so on and so on. Maslow believed that a person need must happen in order unlike other researchers who disagree and “argued that needs do not emerge in a given order…instead, needs occur over time” (Winston, 2016).
Self-esteem plays a role in understanding Maslow hierarchy needs. Having a strong self-esteem plays a role in an individual who feels loved and belonging. Maslow discuss in many research study that self esteem can lead to having a strong self- confidence, and feeling worthy which plays a role of a person’s personality. Someone who lacks those qualities will be unsatisfied and show signs of weakness. If someone isn’t able to climb Maslow pyramid they will be most likely to not reach
